Wimbledon 2022 Day 5
Wimbledon Day 5
Friday 1st June
Jannik Sinner VS John Isner
John Isner Win
Stake 2 Units
Minimum Odds 2.20
Best Book - BET365
John Isner has a game that is perfectly designed for the grass courts. Isner combines one of the biggest serves in the game with a terrific volley to win points quickly and be very hard to break. Sinner has shown all tournament that he struggles on the surface and although he has won 2 matches his footing on the grass looks slow. Sinner’s biggest weakness on the grass has been his serve which should allow Isner to catch a few break points, with his ability to end rallies quickly on the fast surface.
Tommy Paul VS Jiri Vesely
Paul/Vesely Total Games Over 38.5
Stake 2.5 Units
Minimum Odds 1.8
Best Book - Topsport
This is going to be a very enjoyable and underrated match to watch as we have 2 players who are quietly strong on the grass courts. Paul has blasted his way through to the 3rd round with 2 straight sets victories however they weren’t against the strongest of opposition on the surface. Vesely started fast then battled to an epic 5-set victory against Fokina in the last round who had his best match on the surface as well. Both of these players will be hard to break and the sets will go long.
Ugo Humbert VS David Goffin
Humbert/Goffin Total Games Over 39.5
Stake 2.5 Units
Minimum Odds 1.83
Best Book - Topsport
Humbert had a poor build-up to Wimbledon this year but made short work of gaining some form as he took care of Roland Garros runner-up Casper Ruud in the last round. Goffin enjoys the grass surface and is a former quarter-finalist here and has been granted an easy draw so far. We expect to see a lot of big serves and long rallies in this one.
Oscar Otte VS Carlos Alcaraz
Oscar Otte Win
Stake 2 Units
Minimum Odds 3.0
Best Book - UNIBET
Oscar Otte is in the midst of a breakout season as he looks to continue his excellent run on the grass courts. Otte‘s game is perfectly set up for the grass courts with a strong serve and a hard low backhand that skids when it hits the ground making it more difficult to gain power on the return. Alcaraz is also in a breakout season however grass will be his weakest surface as he struggles for footing and getting used to the conditions. We are getting terrific odds on Otte here who has all the tools to get the job done and make a push into week 2.
Cameron Norrie VS Steve Johnson
Steve Johnson Win
Stake 1.5 Units
Minimum Odds 3.3
Best Book - UNIBET
When you think of Cam Norrie most people think he’s a Brit that’s had reasonable success before and should be strong on the grass courts like Andy Murray. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth as Norrie is a lot stronger on the clay courts and has a lot more similarities to Nadal than Murray. Norrie has never reached the heights that were expected of him and a tough player on grass like Johnson will likely expose his ability on the surface. Johnson has a terrific record against left-handed players as well, winning at almost a 66% rate at the tour level.
Tatjana Maria VS Maria Sakkari
Tatjana Maria Over 7.5 Games
Stake 2.5 Units
Minimum Odds 1.75
Best Book - Topsport
This line for Maria’s games is baffling to us as she has shown great ability on the grass throughout her career and has already beaten a strong grasscourt player in Cirstea. We can see Maria pushing to take at least a set here, but the low 7.5 games number is too good to pass up. Sakkari is much stronger on the other surfaces than grass.
Angelique Kerber VS Elise Mertens
Angelique Kerber Win 2-0
Stake 2.5 Units
Minimum Odds 1.8
Best Book - Sportsbet
Angelique Kerber picks up where she left off every time she steps foot on the grass courts. Kerber has come through with little resistance after enjoying a good build-up to the tournament. Kerber should make quick work of Mertens here.
Shuai Zhang VS Caroline Garcia
Zhang/Garcia 3 Total Sets
Stake 2 Units
Minimum Odds 2.2
Best Book - BET365
This looks like a terrific match that should go long. Zhang is a wily player who is hard to match up against and has the head-to-head edge over Garcia. Garcia is the stronger player on grass and is enjoying a strong grasscourt season so far. This has all the makings of a match that needs the deciding set.
