Caveman’s NFL Previews #3

Week 4 Monday Night Football

Atlanta Falcons @ Green Bay Packers

Match-up Insight

Points, Points, Points this game has some serious firepower to it with weapons everywhere on both sides of the field. As much as I'd like to say the Packers are a running football team and they're going to play the clock, Matty Ice is hot, and he's not going to let Rodgers rest on his laurels. We see a record amount of points to start the season, and we get here two teams that struggle to stop the pass. My take is the winning team is the team that can dominate the run game, but it looks like neither team will get a chance when they drop bombs upfield. The Falcons defence is abysmal, they let Nick Foles torch them last week and the next few weeks will show Foles can only play Eagles football. The Packers defence is a unit that looks like they are slowly getting their act together. Still, like the boy scouts of America, it's going to be too little too late to stop this high flying Falcons offence. If Julio Jones returns this week, I can see a great matchup for him across from Kevin King, which should force Rodgers to keep throwing the ball.

The Last Word

Like a corner in Oakland, this game is going to have scores galore, the defences have shown they can't stop anything through the air. The offences are firing on all cylinders expect a great shootout where the team that can get the most points on the ground gets through here.

New England Patriots @ Kansas City Chiefs

Match-up Insight

Do people still think it matters who is under centre for the Patriots? Who the quarterback is for the Patriots matters less than the colour of the couches at the strip club. Remember Bellichick was about to enter this season with Hoyer and Stidham as his QBs until Cam fell into his lap like dollar bills hitting that couch. In 2008 the Patriots went 11-5 with Matt Cassel, and in 2016 they went 3-1 while Brady was deflating balls. The game plan for this game has not changed. The Patriots are going to run this ball and do what they can to keep the ball out of Mahomes hands. James White, Sony Michel and sexy Rexy are all going to be in for big workloads against a team that has one of the worst run defences in the game. For the Chiefs, their outlook on this game is going to be the same as Mahomes if you don't want him to go into a stare-off with Stephen Gilmour as the matchup is not at all favourable. The Patriots are going to take away Kelce and neutralize Clyde Edwards Helaire and dare the Chiefs into beating their secondary over the top. Complacency can creep into the Chiefs camp here with a new gunslinger on deck and a disrupted schedule.

The Last Word

However, this game turns out it's going to be a great watch with some high octane offence, elite playmakers on defence and the two best coaches of their era. Look out for multiple fronts and trick plays. Sit back, grab a beer, your favourite snack and send the wife out with the credit card like these two heavyweights of the AFC go toe to toe in a playoff Esque bout.
